While still in high school, Sr. Blanca worked at June’s Letter Shop (later known as the JM Group, Inc.) for 8 years as an addressograph machine operator and in the accounting department. Then moved on to work as the school secretary at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School for 5 years. During this time she also worked at St. Ann Church Rectory during the evenings and weekends doing the parish mailings. As a young adult she was a loyal member of the St. Ann Guadalupana Society, Religious Education Program and youth group. Sr. Blanca was a support member of Friends of Assumption Seminary and became involved in a vocation group called “VOCARE”, attended various Vocation Walks where she began her vocation process under the care of her vocation director Fr. David Garcia.
In 1990 she entered the convent in Saltillo where she began her religious formation, professed her 1st vows in 1993 in Saltillo and in 1998 professed her final vows in the Congregation of the Hermanas Catequistas Guadalupanas at St. Ann Church in San Antonio, Texas. She was then assigned to St. Henry’s Church (her 1st love) as Director of Religious Education Program where she ministered for 3 years. She was assigned as a youth minister to Sacred Heart Church in Oklahoma City for 3 years, she was then transferred to Our Lady of Guadalupe in Fort Worth, Texas for 2 years before making her way back to San Antonio, Texas.
In 2002, after taking care of her very ill mother for 1 year and at the same time helping out as a CCD catechist at St. Ann, at the Pastor’s request to her community, she was assigned to St. Ann Church as a DRE where she has faithfully and generously ministered till present time, always living her congregation motto “To Love Jesus and Mary and make Them be Loved”, making this her longtime dream come true (to come back and serve the people of St. Ann parish). Her deep passion in her ministry is to be there, be present to the people she serves especially to our youth. Her hobbies include writing, reading, card making and doing jigsaw puzzles. She is also a faithful sports fan of the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys.
